Wild and Wacky on the Web

Welcome

This is the web site for the Waukesha County Federated Library System Wild and Wacky on the Web workshop. The workshops are free and open to all residents of Waukesha County. They are funded by a TEACH grant from the State of Wisconsin. Librarians and teachers from all over Waukesha County will be presenting the workshops.

Workshop Contents

This workshop is designed as a continuation of the Introduction to the Internet workshops. It builds on many of the techniques and tools you learned about in those various workshops. We'll spend a lot of time entering World Wide Web addresses to go to various Web sites that hopefully will be of interest to you. We hope to use these Web sites for fun exploration and as starting points for showing some advanced Web techniques

Another way to think about this workshop is as Organized Chaos. Or maybe even as Playtime. We hope that you discover Web resources that are interesting to you, and in the process you get a chance to play, practice and discover some advanced tricks of the Web. During the course of the workshop we do NOT expect to cover all the Web sites listed. We do expect while attending the workshop you will focus on those Web sites and techniques that reflect your interests.

We've divided the workshop into seven sections each devoted to a particular Web site and technique. We chose these areas based on our own experiences at Public Libraries across Waukesha County. While your particular idea of fun may not be represented the general techniques remain the same. For exploring Web sites not listed we suggest attending one of our Search Engines workshops, or checking the companion Web pages on Search Engines.

Listed in no particular order below you can click on these links to see the suggested Wild and Wacky Web site and advanced technique listed:

  1. Yuckiest Site on the Internet and Bookmarks
  2. How Stuff Works and Home Pages
  3. FunBrain and Customized Fonts and Colors
  4. Internet Movie Database and History
  5. Dumb Laws and Finding Stuff on a Page
  6. Hampster Dance and Saving Images
  7. 3 Kids Sites and Multiple Windows
