Ask Jeeves

Ask Jeeves is a Meta search engine, but with a difference. Meta means that
it will search several different search engines at once. It then combines all the
results and merges them together in a display for you to choose your links. There
are a number of Meta search engines and Ask Jeeves is one of the most popular. This
can be very attractive as one stop shopping. However Meta search engines tend to
be slow, their method of searching each individual search engine may not work for
your search and how they display the results may bury the links you want too far
down the list.
The difference that makes Ask Jeeves so good is it works around this problem by "interviewing"
you, the user. It does this by sorting the results of your initial search into catagories
of subjects. It then asks you to pick which category matches what you are looking
for, and then delivers the actual web page matches. This method works extremely well
when you aren't sure what you are looking for, or what words are used to describe
your need. There is also a kids Ask Jeeves that works equally well.
