Welcome
This is the web site for the Waukesha County Federated Library System Email workshop. The workshops are free and open to all residents of Waukesha County. They are funded by a TEACH grant from the State of Wisconsin. Librarians and teachers from all over Waukesha County will be presenting the workshops.
Workshop Contents
This workshop is designed as a continuation of the Introduction to the Internet workshops. It builds on many of the techniques and tools you learned about in the Introduction and the other Internet workshops we've held. You can check the Web pages for those workshops at these links:
We chosen to use Web Based Email services for this workshop. These services are readily available to library patrons regardless of location or type of computer used. There are lots of competing Web Based Email services. The factors that affected our choice of a service include speed of web page response, ease of use, full features, and lack of offensive advertising. Based on that criteria we narrowed our choices to two:
Our final choice was Yahoo Mail. It is the examples we use on these web pages and is the service we'll use in the workshop. All Web Based Email services work in similar fashion, so what is learned on Yahoo Mail can applied to other services.
We've divided the workshop into five sections each devoted to a particular part of the email process. We chose these areas based on our own experiences using email and helping others at Public Libraries across Waukesha County. There are many additional features that can be used with email but in a short workshop the 5 areas we present will get you going successfully allowing plenty of time for hands on practice. The last area presented, options, is intended to help you discover more advanced features you can explore later on your own.
Listed in order of presentation below you can click on these links to see the suggested Web resources for each email area
