We think one of the very best search engines for beginners is Yahoo. Here's a picture of the Yahoo opening Page. If you came to one of our introductory Internet workshops you are already familiar with Yahoo. Yahoo is the Web's most popular search service and has a well-deserved reputation for helping people find information easily. It allows you to do both simple keyword or "phrase" searching as well as providing the best subject directory on the web.
You can see where you enter your search words. You simply type in any words that
describe what you're looking for. Unique terms work better than common words. You
then click on the Search Button.
Below that you'll also note links that are divided by subject areas. That's one of
the strengths of Yahoo. It has divided all of its links into subjects that can be
navigated using menus. So you can either look for a specific word or browse through
the subject terms.
The web resources yahoo has links to are selected by humans and therefore are subject
to selection criteria. In theory this should result on your searches returning the
"best of the web".
