Using Your Device

Outside the Device

The REB 1100 (and Rocket eBook) are very easy to use. Here's some diagrams showing all the important external buttons and features.

The Smart Media Card bay is also where the all important reset hole is located. You'll need a paper clip to perform a reset.

Inside the Device

Orientation

Now we'll look at some of the common features for using the REB 1100. Starting with here's the title page of a new book on the REB 1100. Note the screen orientation logo has been tapped and you can now tap the appropriate triangle to choose the text direction.

Tapping the Targetting Circle in the middle starts a program that re-aligns the screen for accurate screen tapping.

Getting Big

We've choosen horizontal, and also optioned for the larger of the two fonts available by tapping the "rocket" logo. You can use your configuration software to choose any two fonts and font sizes to have loaded on the REB 1100.

Opening Books

Tapping the Stack of Books logo gives access to the ebooks book shelf and other configuration options. Resulting in a full listing of all the books on this REB 1100.

About Your REB 1100

Choosing the About Your eBook listing will lead to Details about your device such as the amount of battery life and memory space available. This screen also shows the eBook ID number.

Playing With A Book

Tapping the Open Book logo opens the features listing to play within a specific title on your ebook.

Using the Dictionary

The Lookup feature allows a user to tap on the word they want defined, and then opens up the dictionary directly to that definition.

About the Book and Restoring It

To restore the REB 1100 by deleting bookmarks and notes, choose About This Edition and click on Remove Markups. This will prepare the ebook for the next patron.

Additional Features

There are additional features available such as Bookmarks and Notes. They work very much like those outlined above. Once you've played with these, using the other features will be transparent. Just remember you can't break the device just by tapping on logos and features.

Resetting the Device

Every once in a while the REB 1100 might get too confused to work. Performing a reset will usually set the device to rights. Use a straightened paper clip to push in the reset hole in the back of the device (inside the media bay cover, see above). The REB 1100 is most likely to get confused when someone starts hammering on one of the page up/page back buttons, repeatedly, with no pauses. It can also occassionally get confused when loading a new book.
