The KB provides librarians with a rich resource
for answering virtual reference questions. The Global KB already has thousands of
Question and Answer pairs and more are added daily. There are 2 KBs available to
the AskWisconsin group. The Global KB is primarily administered by the Library of
Congress along with other QuestionPoint members. There will be a group KB that we
will create and administer regionally as the project develops.
The KB is easily searchable from a librarian log on. In the basic search you enter
terms and choose Question, Answer, or both search areas.
Successful searches result in a list. Click on the question to get the detail.
The detail has the Question and Answer as well as other defining elements of that
pair. Note especially that most answers have web resources with links.
The advanced search allows you to look for specific terms in specific subject areas
and which of the two KBs to search.
Librarians can browse the KB. Use this to locate related materials for more in depth
reference work. Also librarians can familiarize themselves with the range of resources
available in the KB.
