The first thing to be done is set up authorizations
for the virtual reference librarians at your institution. It's easy and once done
won't require a great deal of additional maintenance, but it is a basic requirement
for getting started. Note the Administration link in the black header bar. Click
it to start.
At the Institution Admin Home click on Manage Accounts.
The default web page is the Create Account tab. Please note in ALL QuestionPoint
Tabbed interfaces, the grey tab is simply grey, not "greyed out" (as in
windows formatting where greyed out indicates a not available action).
Enter a name. One name works too, so you can have a generic named librarian to use
for a group of librarians. An email address and then the account privileges. The
options shown here are good ones to use to begin with until you are sure of settings.
When you create a librarian account their starting out default password is their
email address. They will be prompted to change that password the first time they
log on. You will never know their password.
If you click the View/Update Accounts tab you see all of your existing librarian
accounts. You can edit or remove them from this display.
From the Institution Administration Home you can also click on Manage Passwords.
This is where you can have a librarians password emailed to them, in case they forget
it, or you can reset their password back to their email address. Simply choose the
action and then the account and click on the appropriate button to the left of the
drop down field.
There are additional Settings you should look at from the Institution Administration
Home.
Custom Reply Text lets you add standard text that is automatically appended to every
email sent to patrons.
Outgoing Address lets you set a standard institutional email address.
E-mail Notification allows to decide if a librarian email account gets a message
every time a patron submits a question.
Question Form is where you enter the URL of your QuestionPoint patron page.
Any time you need help it's available in the header bar. The help is generally context
sensitive, clear and up to date.
