New Berlin Public Library
Search Engines

Welcome

This site is the companion to the Waukesha County Federated Library System Internet Search Engines workshops. The workshops are free and open to all residents of Waukesha County. They are funded by a TEACH grant from the State of Wisconsin. Librarians and teachers from all over Waukesha County will be presenting the workshops.

Workshop Contents

We've divided the workshop into seven sections. Each section is short and easily learned. All seven combined should serve as a good introduction to the world of Internet Search Engines. We start with background information on Search Engines, how to generally use them, and resources for detailed information on Search Engines. Then we'll explore practical approaches for using 6 of the most popular and highly regarded Search Engines on the Internet. Click on the links to see the lesson for each one:

  1. Using Search Engines
  2. Yahoo
  3. AltaVista
  4. HotBot
  5. Infoseek
  6. Excite
  7. MetaCrawler
