New Berlin

Public Library

Hobbies

Welcome

This is the web site for the New Berlin Public Library Hobbies workshop. The workshops are free and open to all residents of New Berlin. They are funded by a TEACH grant from the State of Wisconsin. Mark Beatty from WiLS will be presenting the workshops.

Workshop Contents

This workshop is designed as a continuation of the Introduction to the Internet workshops. It builds on many of the techniques and tools you learned about in the Introduction. We'll spend a lot of time entering World Wide Web addresses to go to various web sites that hopefully will be of interest to you.

Another way to think about this workshop is as Organized Chaos. Or maybe even as Playtime. We hope that you discover Web resources that are interesting to you, but also that in the process you get a chance to play and practice and discover about using the Web in general. During the course of the workshop we do NOT expect to cover all the web sites listed. We do expect though that while attending the workshop you will focus on those subjects and Web sites that reflect your Hobbies.

We've divided the workshop into eight sections each devoted to a particular subject area. We chose these areas based on our own experiences the Public Library. While your particular Hobby may not be represented the general techniques remain the same. For exploring Hobbies not listed we suggest attending one of our Search Engines workshops, or checking the companion Web pages on Search Engines.

Listed in alphabetical order below you can click on these links to see the suggested Web resources for each Hobby:

  1. Books and Reading
  2. Cooking
  3. Finance
  4. Genealogy
  5. Health
  6. Shopping
  7. Sports
  8. Travel
