Welcome

The purpose of this web site is to help Ask?Away administrators get started helping their librarians and patrons access the QuestionPoint/247Reference system. It is not designed to answer all your detailed unique and thorny problems. Sorry we're just not that smart <grin>. To address those kinds of problems resources include:

Contact Mark Beatty directly at:

Check the rich array of resources at the OCLC QuestionPoint web site:
http://questionpoint.org
and be sure to log in as librarian to find even more resources.

Contact your fellow admins, often the very best resource. Check the listing of institutions and admins on this web sites Coverage page

Affliated Institutions

Historial Societies, Museums, Schools of all sorts can also participate in Ask?Away by putting the Ask?Away logo and links into the service on their web site. We encourage you to do so. The process is easy and all of our patrons will gain no matter what their information needs are. If you need additional help beyond the steps below don't hesitate to contact the Ask?Away contact librarian at the nearest participating library or Mark Beatty at mbeatty@wils.wisc.edu.

Here's the basis steps:

  • Choose an Ask?Away logo to use from the samples below
  • Check the Coverage Page for Libraries and Contacts
  • Decide which participating library fits best with your institution
  • Use geography or type or other affiliation
  • Contact that library to let them know you're adding the Ask?Away logo to your site and using their Patron Entre' URL
  • Discuss with them how best to add your institutions information to their Policy Page
  • Use their Patron Entre' URL as the link for the logo on your site

IDs and URLs

In order to set up your various patron entre' pages you need to create various kinds of web page information. To enter the Chat service you'll need to construct a specific URL for your link. To enter the Web form service you'll need to use specific Java script to create a Web form. In both cases the most important bit of information is your Institution ID. To find this vital piece of information:

log on to the librarian service

find the Institution ID located in the general upper left hand side

Logos and Graphics

Of course to help you set the patron web pages up you'll need logos and graphics. The banner is located at the top of this page. Just take it. There are additional buttons and logos below. Again just take what you need.

Navigation

Just use the menu to the left to choose the page of information you need. Thanks.
